Last year, the Red Sox signed away Mike Napoli and reliever Koji Uehara. That kinda worked.
Napoli: 139 games, .259, 38 2B, 23 HR, 92 RBI
Koji Uehara: 73 games, 4-1, 74.1 ip., 33 hits, 10 r, 1.09 ERA
Both players were big contributors to the Red Sox in their World Series run, both in terms of a beard/bat and saves.
The Rangers replaced Napoli with Pierzynski, who signed a one-year contract and was a major score - he batted .272 with 17 home runs, 70 RBI in 134 games last season.
Pierzynski, who has a broadcasting career waiting for him whenever he retires, agreed to a one-year deal with the Red Sox for the obvious reason - he believes they are closer, and it's the best baseball market in the country.
Napoli is a free agent again and reportedly wants three years. Despite his bat, it's doubtful the Rangers will go that far.
But they need a catcher. Again.
