When Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill got wind that there was a slight problem with the team's TV/radio broadcast team he sat the pair down. A GM getting involved with the broadcasters of a pro sports team is not exactly the norm.
Of course, the tandem of Ralph Strangis and Daryl Reaugh is not the norm. They are the face of this franchise ... although Jamie Benn is about to become that.
As expected, on the verge of their first playoff appearance since 2008 - they better not blow this - the Dallas Stars have announced contract extensions with both men.
In late November of last year, Strangis made it apparent he was not happy with a contract that was set to expire after this season. Several higher ups in the Stars' organization were not pleased that Ralph went so public with this contract negotiation, but ... business is business. Ralph wanted to get more, and played his cards.
"It's a situation that I never doubted that would get done as long as they wanted to remain here," Stars president Jim Lites told me. "They are the highest-paid tandem in the league. Both guys like what they do, we love them, and the market loves them. I never doubted it would get accomplished."
