Sad news: Ex-TCU head coach unable to attend reunion game

6a00e54f7fc4c58833017c31e27914970b-300wiTCU's season-opening game against Samford on Saturday was the idea of Pat Sullivan, who coached the Horned Frogs in the '90s. Sadly, however, Sullivan will not be able to coach or attend the game.

Sullivan, the current head coach at Samford, asked TCU a few years ago about playing this game with the idea of a reunion with many of his former players, and maybe even a reunion of his 1994 team that was co-champions of the Southwest Conference.

Pat Sullivan said in a statement

"Unfortunately I will not be able to make the trip with my Samford team this weekend for our game against TCU. My doctors have advised me not to travel at this time due to a complication from a surgery earlier this year. We have an incredible coaching staff that has done a great job preparing our team for the season opener. I have full confidence that our coaches and student-athletes will make the Samford family proud on Saturday."

Pat had surgery on his neck in April, and he told me via email he had a "small setback". Sullivan had throat cancer several years ago.

Sullivan was the head coach of the Horned Frogs from 1992 to '97.
