Kevin Willis went through a second day of workouts in his bid to claim the Mavs' lone open roster spot. Coach Avery Johnson said Willis did a good job so we'll wait and see if Willis gets to put on a Mavs jersey or not. If he does, it will probably be a 10-day contract and then go from there...
Avery said on Friday morning that whether the Mavs sign Willis or someone else, he doesn't expect that player to do much else put take up a spot at the end of the bench.
Still, Willis makes sense. At 7-foot, he's not far from his playing weight around 240-245 or something around there, so he can be thrown in to use up some fouls if necessary and he's never been afraid to bang, so he could be a good emergency center if Dampier and Diop get in foul trouble, which isn't hard to fathom.

Can you verify when exactly Kevin Willis and Avery Johnson played together as teammates?
I can't seem to prove it at NBA.com or basketballreference.com.
