Kevin Willis finished up a 45-minute workout with Mavs coach Avery Johnson about a half-hour ago or so..The 7-footer said he's good to go and could help the Mavs win a title as he did a few years back as a valuable locker-room guy with the Spurs. Of course, he knows he wouldn't log as much court time as he did with the Spurs, but he feels he can be a valuable presence in terms of his work ethic and the great rapport he has with players, not to mention the wealth of experience he brings...Avery left the building without commenting on how the workout went, but Willis said he'll be back tomorrow to run through some more drills before the Mavs a make a decision.
Willis lives in Atlanta where he runs his clothing company called Willis & Walker...they're into high-end sportswear and even outfit some Mavs, including Erick Dampier...There's also other connections that could help Willis fill that vacant roster spot. Willis and Avery played together in Denver and Mavs asst. coach Joe Prunty was an asst. under Gregg Popovich in S.A. when the Spurs won the title.
Willis watched Wednesday's game against the Bucks from Mark Cuban's suite and he'll also take in Friday's game against the Knicks before possibly putting on the Mavs gear...but as of now that final roster spot remains vacant.
