Avery Johnson played six seasons under Gregg Popovich in San Antonio and the two haave a strong relationship that includes a lot of one-liners at the others' expense.
Johnson started the latest round when asked about the Spurs Tuesday morning.
"They've won the championship four of the last nine years," Johnson said. "They have a terrific program. The coach is average, but the players are great."
Pop shot back: "It's his fault because what I do is everything I learned from him, so he didn't teach me very well."
Johnson got the final shot: "He always like to poke fun at me. That's going to be an on-going deal. I'm just disappointed that he's softer on on Tony Parker than he was on me. It must be old age."
That was in response to Tony Parker sitting out Tuesday's preseason opener.
Johnson also noted that Popovich flew to Paris to attend Parker's wedding to Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria.
"I don't know if [Popovich] would have attended my wedding in Paris," Johnson said.
