The Mavs have waived center DJ Mbenga, which could clear a path for veteran power forward Juwan Howard to join the team.
Howard, who has no shortage of suitors because of his low-post scoring ability, reached a buy-out agreement with Minnesota on Monday.
A deal with the 13-year veteran, who played for the Mavs from 2001-02, could be completed by Dallas on Wednesday.
