Avery Johnson and his players might be reading from the same script. They seem to be playing up the angle for this season as the underdog, the team that will fly under the radar. Avery mentioned that the Mavs can go 85-0, 82-0 in the regular season and go up 3-0 in the first round of the playoffs, and still no one would favor them to win the title.
Dirk said basically the same thing on Monday, but he limited his remarks to 82-0. I don't know, 81-1 seems more reasonable. After all, you have to expect at least one slip up.
"It's not bad," Nowitzki said of being the underdog. "I think San Antonio last year did just that. Next thing you know they won it again."
