Efficiency rating is a good raw statistical way of judging a player's overall performance based upon how they perform statistically in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals, turnovers, free-throw percentage and field-goal percentage. Dirk's efficiency rating tonight? 4.
He hasn't had a game that bad since Dec. 23, 2003. Humorously enough, that game was also against Portland. He had 6 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and shot 3-12 from the floor. Josh Howard also had one of his better rookie performances that night off the bench. The Mavs lost that game, but tonight, Josh Howard was quite a bit better than he was in 2003 and carried the Mavs and Dirk's poor performance on his back. Just for a frame of reference, Dirk's average efficiency rating for the season is a 25.4. Even though he was bad, his efficient rating still beats out Trenton Hassell's season average of 3.8.
