"We were awful," Avery Johnson said.
That and other thoughts from the Mavs on Saturday's loss to the Trail Blazers.
Avery Johnson:
"Young players like [Brandon] Roy and [LaMarcus] Aldridge are growing up right before our very eyes and they made some very really excellent plays tonight.
"I love my guys, they love to lay it on the line, they just didn't lay it on the line, they just didn't have it tonight, the other team was better. We can't just show up without our hard hats and without our thinking caps on and expect to win."
Jerry Stackhouse:
"We missed Devin Harris tonight, but that's never an excuse. We pride ourselves on being a championship-caliber team so we need to come together and play as a team. I don't know if it was that we underestimated this team or what. We saw them put on a good performance last night so we knew they were dangerous."
Josh Howard:
"They came out and played a great game, especially Roy and Aldridge. We missed some shots. I don't think we could buy a basket tonight. They played hard. They had a good defensive scheme sending three guys in the post and we missed shots. We have another game coming up soon, so we move on."
The Mavs play Philadelphia at home Tuesday and the Spurs Thursday as the first half of a four-game home stand.
