Say what you will about Avery Johnson's decision to bring Jason Terry back into the starting lineup, but it hasn't made too much of an impact on Terry individually thus far. Since he started on Nov. 28 against Minnesota, Terry's overall production has only gone down about 4 percent. When you compare the four games he's started against the first 14 games he came off the bench, his scoring is down by less than a point, but his assists are up by almost one per game and his three pointers made per game have gone up along with an increase in three-point shooting percentage. Of course, his minutes have gone up considerably in these last four games, so you'd expect him to be doing more statistically. From what Avery has said, Terry will return to coming off the bench when the Mavs get healthier, and that should be a positive for Terry, even if it's just by a little bit. A stat comparison:
| Stat | Starting | Off the bench |
| Games | 4 | 14 |
| Points | 16.5 | 17.3 |
| Assists | 4.5 | 3.6 |
| Rebounds | 2.5 | 2.7 |
| FG% | 46.2 | 48.6 |
| 3pt% | 38.7 | 37.6 |
| 3pt M-A | 12-31 | 35-93 |
| Efficiency | 16.25 | 17.07 |
| Record | 3-1 | 9-5 |
