Longtime Mavs assistant coach Del Harris, who most recently served as a team consultant, is leaving the organization to join the staff of first-time head coach Vinny Del Negro with the Chicago Bulls.
Harris came to Dallas in 2000, joining coach Don Nelson's staff. He remained on the bench as an assistant when Nelson stepped down and Avery Johnson took over late in the 2005-06 season. He left coaching after the 2006-07 season, but stayed with the team as a consultant, garnering a lifetime contract from team owner Mark Cuban.
Harris accumulated more than 500 career wins as a head coach with the Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers.
