According to Primera Hora, a news outlet in Puerto Rico, Dallas Mavericks restricted free agent J.J. Barea has agreed to a two-year deal and an option year worth $4.8 million.
Haven't heard any official confirmation of this yet. And if you expect to get much out of that link, I hope you know your Spanish. I guess I remember just enough. Barea, who of course hails from Puerto Rico, can sign his new deal on July 9.
Barea figures to head into training camp as the team's third point guard. The Mavs continue to shop for a backup. Tyronn Lue said Wednesday that he's narrowed his choices to Dallas, Phoenix and Boston. The Mavs signed Lue late last season after he was released by Sacramento. The Mavs have also been said to have interest in Dan Dickau.
With Gerald Green officially signing a one-year, minimum contract on Thursday, and assuming DeSagana Diop and Barea sign their deals on July 9, the Mavs now have 11 players on their 15-man roster: G/F Gerald Green, G/F Eddie Jones, G/F Jerry Stackhouse, G Jason Kidd, G Jason Terry, G J.J. Barea, F Dirk Nowtizki, F Josh Howard, F Brandon Bass, C DeSagana Diop, C Erick Dampier.
The Mavs drafted Shan Foster with the No. 51 pick on June 26. Foster will compete on the Mavs' summer league team in hopes of earning a spot on the roster. Guard Keith McCloud is also a roster hopeful.

Waste of a roster space. Welcome to mediocrity.
