First things first, Josh Howard bowed his head and put his right hand over his heart, as usual, during the playing of the national anthem, and then applause drowned out initial boos when he was introduced in the starting lineup.
Then Howard put on an aggressive show with strong drives. He's been working to reduce the number of step-back jumpers he takes and increase his slashes to the basket in Rick Carlisle's motion offense.
Against Washington he scored 15 points on 7 of 11 shooting. He had just one 3-point attempt.
"Everything is flowing, guys are still learning, but for the most part the floor is wide open for me," Howard said. "So any time we get the opportunity we need to take advantage of it."
