Jason Kidd and Josh Howard were among four players to sit out Saturday's practice at SMU. Kidd has a sore right hamstring and Howard is suffering lower back tightness. Keith McLeod, a journeyman point guard trying to make the team has a bad hamstring and Eddie Jones has yet to practice during training camp because of a hamstring issue.
None of the ailments are considered significant. Coach Rick Carlisle is giving the team Sunday off to rest after five days of pretty grueling practices. He said he doesn't think Kidd's hamstring is anything more than just sore and he said Howard is fine.
The guy he feels badly for is McLeod, who played under Carlisle for a bit at Indiana. He said McLeod's hamstring situation could keep him out two to three weeks and that could greatly reduce his chances of landing a spot on the roster.
