The NBA office has told Mark Cuban it will not allow him to make a donation to charity in J.R. Smith's name.
The Mavericks owner was fined $25,000 for what the league termed "improper interaction'' with the Denver guard at the half of the Mavericks loss to the Nuggets on Jan. 13. Cuban was upset with an elbow thrown by Smith that missed Antoine Wright and argued Smith should have been suspended. He wasn't.
Whenever Cuban is fined by the league, he consistently matches that amount and donates to charity. Making a donation in Smith's name was a dig at the league, one the league chose not to play along with.
Oh well, there will be other fines.
