You've no doubt heard about the buyout guys like Drew Gooden (San Antonio), Stromile Smith (Phoenix) and Joe Smith (Cleveland). The Mavericks kicked the tires on all of them but couldn't get enough interest to get any deal done.
Luther Head was an outside possibility, but he appears headed to Miami.
The Mavericks' situation is this: They have 15 players, which means they would have to waive somebody to add another player. They wouldn't add anybody unless it was an obvious upgrade, especially since whoever they cut they still have to pay.
So don't look for a Keith McLeod or Robert Horry or anybody else to drop into their laps.
