It's rare that Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry fail to give the Mavericks what they need offensively.
It happened in the loss to Denver. Most of the focus was placed on what Nowitzki didn't do in the second half. It goes deeper. In the final three quarters, Nowitzki and Terry combined to score just 24 points and go 5-of-24 from the field. That's 20.8 percent if you don't have your calculator handy.
The Mavericks can't afford both players to struggle offensively on the same night when Josh Howard isn't around. The amazing aspect is not that the Mavericks lost.
What's truly amazing is that they only lost by two. That speaks to how much better the Mavericks are playing on defense in the last week to 10 days.
