Rockets, Celtics to play exhibition in McAllen

The Houston Rockets will play the Boston Celtics in a preseason game next October near the Texas-Mexico border.

The Rockets announced Thursday they’ll play the Celtics on Oct. 7 at Dodge Arena in McAllen. That’s the home of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets’ affiliate in the NBA’s Developmental League.

The Rockets say it’ll be the first time a major American sports league has played a game in the Rio Grande Valley.
