Dwane Casey has been to Philadelphia for two interviews with the Sixers about their head coaching position.
If Ed Stefanski and Co. are thinking clearly, they will hire Casey, who assisted coach Rick Carlisle this season.
It will be a bad day for the Mavericks, who were blessed with an all-star team of assistant coaches this season with Casey, Terry Stotts, Mario Elie, Popeye Jones and Tom Sterner.
All have had extensive experience on the bench.
I have no inside information to give you about Casey's chances in Philly. All I know is that he had a Minnesota team at 20-20 and was the last coach who got through to Kevin Garnett in Minnesota. After Casey left, the team fell apart under Randy Wittman and is only now showing signs of rebounding after two fan-grousing seasons.
If Casey leaves the Mavericks it would be great for him. And it would shed a positive light on Carlisle and his staff. It's always good to know that your employees are wanted by the competitors. That means they've been doing a good job.
But on the other hand, it would be difficult to see Casey move on. He's been a stand-up guy throughout this season and few people get the sort of respect as a decent human being that he does.
