I've had a lot of emails asking about who exactly is available for the Mavericks. There are more than 100 free agents out there, most of them low-level players.
But here's a quick-hit list of the key free agents out there.
Those that make sense for the Mavericks: Anderson Varejao-Could be had if Cavaliers sign Villanueva. Rasheed Wallace-No longer a dominator, but would be an upgrade. Ron Artest-If he decides to bolt on Houston, but it would have to be a sign-and-trade. Antonio McDyess-Still rock-solid after all these years. Trevor Ariza-Would be great, but can't see any way he leaves LA. Raymond Felton-Bobcats would match any offer up to the mid-level. Allen Iverson-Don't laugh, he's still a name-brand and can score big time. Hakim Warrick-Late bloomer could be ready for some big seasons. Shawn Marion-Not the player he once was, but might be a functional 3.
Those that make no sense: Charlie Villanueva-Would be great, but he wants to break the bank. Paul Millsap-Ditto. Ben Gordon-Either staying in Chicago or headed to Detroit, it seems. Lamar Odom-Not sure he fits with Dirk. Hedo Turkoglu-Trying to hit the lottery. Andre Miller-Good player, but doesn't fit here with Kidd around. David Lee-They need a scorer, not a rebounder. Mike Bibby-Can't do the things Kidd does. Chris Andersen-Again, rebounding and shot-blocking isn't what they need.
