Bass deal won't impact Mavs

Though the Mavericks won't receive anything in return for Brandon Bass, they probably earned some good will with the Orlando Magic and Bass' agent, Tony Dutt.

The Mavericks were in the conversations much of the way with Dutt and Magic president Otis Smith.

There was no sign-and-trade. But with the Mavericks bringing in Marcin Gortat from Orlando, it sort of ended up like that, although Bass is getting paid less than Gortat will.

We've heard that the contract starts just north of $4 million.
