The naysayers will laugh at this one, but players like Quinton Ross are good for any team's program.
One, they come relatiavely cheap. Two, they are local kids who have an identity in the community.
Three, the guy has improved every season.
Coach Rick Carlisle had this to say after this morning's summer-league team got together for practice:
"He's going to be a good system player for us, a terrific defender, a multi-position player and an improved 3-point shooter the last couple years. I think he really fits in well with our team.
"And he's a great age. Anytime you get a local guy, from SMU and from Dallas, that has all these characteristics on your team, you feel like it's a big plus.''
Ross, a 6-6 shooting guard, will add a key piece to the Mavericks' depth and the guess here is that he'll start more than a handful of games next season. He has every other year he's been in the league, although with considerably poorer teams.
