Drew Gooden was just taken out before the second of two Shaquille O'Neal free throws.
He was replaced by Kris Humphries, who is a good rebounder. But Gooden is the best active rebounder on the team, especially at the defensive end in traffic.
So naturally, the Cavaliers tipped out the missed free throw by Shaq and ended up with a 3-pointer by Jamario Moon.
Maybe the Cavs would have gotten the rebound anyway. But Shaq's been known to miss a free throw or seven. I would have kept Gooden on the floor.
As it turned out the end of the first half was good to the Mavericks. After the three pointer by Moon and another one by Mo Williams, Jason Terry canned a jumper with 4.2 seconds showing. The Cavaliers turned it over on the inbounds pass and J.J. Barea flipped in a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Mavericks a morsel of momentum going into the second half.
They still trail 68-55, but it could have been so much worse after giving up 68.4-percent shooting to the Cavaliers.
