Dirk Nowitzki appeared to injure his left shoulder on his final shot of the first half, which was either blocked by Kenyon Martin or jammed into the underside of the backboard.
Nowitzki kneeled over in obvious pain, clutching his left shoulder, which is supposed to be his good arm. His shooting arm, the right, still requires a huge protective pad on the elbow after his collision with Houston's Carl Landry about 10 days ago.
We'll get the update as soon as we can.
Earlier, Nowitzki had to work hard to get his third bucket of the first half and he's struggling against a Denver defense that is ramped up to give him fits. He's got just six points at halftime.
On the other end, it's not much better for Denver's Carmelo Anthony. He's got nine points, but has made just 3-of-12 shots and has struggled mightily with a couple of offensive fouls.
The Mavericks led by as much as 11 points, but settled for a 55-52 advantage when the Nuggets surged just before the end of the first half.
Going to be a rugged second half.
