Sacramento's Tyreke Evans and Milwaukee's Brandon Jennings, the two front-runners in the rookie of the year race, will headline the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge on Friday night during All-Star Weekend.
Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry are spending this morning at Sam Tasby Middle School near NorthPark to announce the rookies and sophomore players who will compete in the game on Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. at American Airlines Center. They also handed out tickets to the Friday night festivities to 100 kids at an assembly at the school.
Among the second-year players selected for the game are Miami's Michael Beasley, New York's Danilo Gallinari, Memphis' Marc Gasol, The Clippers' Eric Gordon, New Jersey's Brook Lopez, Minnesota's Kevin Love, Memphis' O.J. Mayo, Chicago's Derrick Rose and Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook.
Other rookies joining Evans and Jennings are San Antonio's DeJuan Blair, Oklahoma City's James Harden, Sacramento's Omri Casspi, Golden State's Stephen Curry, Detroit's Jonas Jerebko and Chicago's Taj Gibson.
Missing out is the Mavericks' Roddy Beaubois, who simply hasn't played enough to unseat the plethora of other rookie guards dotting the league. Also unable to play is the No. 1 overall pick, Blake Griffin of the Clippers, who is out the entire season with a knee injury.
The reserves for the All-Star Game at Cowboys Stadium on Feb. 14 will be announced Thursday before TNT's doubleheader.
