OK, let's get this straight. The San Antonio Spurs beat the Mavericks in six games in the first round of the NBA playoffs and Gregg Popovich is the greatest basketball mind in history and Rick Carlisle is an idiot.
So now, the Spurs are down 3-0 to the Phoenix Suns and we know now that Alvin Gentry is a mastermind and Popovich is an idiot.
Right?
Anybody?
The Spurs are down 3-0 to the Suns for the same reason that the Mavs got whacked in the first round.
There are more players playing well for the Suns than there are for the Spurs.
That's it.
We all enjoy dealing with Popovich in the media, and those of us who know him well enjoy dealing with Carlisle, too.
Remember, coaches are crucial...but only to a point. If you don't have the players, it doesn't matter how much you coach them.

Carlisle had the players. According to the whole Dallas area, the Mavs had the better players 1-10. He either got outcoached or his "more talented players" choked. Or both. Take your pick.

Carlilse got punked ...
Roddy was the X factor; if he had played the Mav's wouldn't be fishing right now.
And for anyone to say Roddy wasn't ready to play ... what kind of coach can't develop a talent like that?
No excuses ...
