The Mavericks worked on defense in the morning and just
finished a two-hour workout that focused on offense this evening.
On Wednesday, it’ll be one practice combining the two,
he said.
With a veteran team, there’s no need to overdo it with
two-a-days. However, he said no matter how many practices there are in camp,
they will all be full-bore workouts.
“The only way we’re going to get better defensively
is to play hard all the time,’’ Carlisle said. “We have a
strategy of how we’re going to do practices. But if things aren’t
going good, it could all change.’’
Carlisle is working with a slightly tweaked coaching staff
this year. Assistant coach Tom Sterner took a job with Philadelphia scouting
and former player-development coach Monte Mathis has been moved up to assistant
coach. Also, Popeye Jones left the player-development staff to join Avery
Johnson in New Jersey.

One of the oldest teams in the league is going to improve this year by playing hard at defense all the time... yeah, that sounds like the way to build a better team than last year (since Cuban didn't add any of the top talent that is the usual way to build a better team year to year). Let's just pull ourselves up by our bootstraps. That has worked SO well the last four seasons.
