The first practice is over and the two-hour workout was
spent on one thing:
Defense.
The Mavericks are going to emphasize the other end of the
court in the second practice of the day this evening.
“We got a good start on our basics,’’
coach Rick Carlisle said of the defense. “And tonight will be more about
offense and spacing and those kinds of things.’’
Carlisle said he was pleased with the Mavericks’
enthusiasm and conditioning at the start of training camp.
“We’re a veteran team, so that gives you a bit
of a head start,’’ he said. “We’ve got some guys who have been
in the system two years and the new guys now have a camp and 40 games or so.
We’re not emphasizing anything different. We’re going to play
Maverick defense.’’
All 16 of the healthy Mavericks went through the drills.
Roddy Beaubois spent his time on the stationary bicycle.
Carlisle said the team will divide into three groups tonight
so that everybody can get more repetitions on the offensive basics.
