Dee Brown probably never had a chance to make the Mavericks’
opening day roster. He was a 6-foot point guard trying out for a team that has
Jason Kidd, J.J. Barea, Roddy Beaubois, Jason Terry and not enough minutes even
for that foursome.
So today the Mavericks waived Brown, as well as Adam Haluska.
Here’s a reason why fans should hope Brown catches on
with another NBA team: Did you happen to see the play near the end of last
night’s game when Orlando’s Mickael Pietrus stole the ball and had
a breakaway for an easy basket?
On the turnover by Dominique Jones, Brown was a good 20 feet
behind Pietrus, but he went as fast as he could and ended up fouling Pietrus
with 26 seconds left to stop a sure dunk.
It was a play that made no difference in the outcome and
will be forgotten quickly. But it was the kind of hustle that you love to see,
particularly out of a player who is on the fringe of the NBA.
Here’s hoping that Brown latches on with somebody. He
deserves to be playing in this league.
