Though the stitches will still be in his right hand, Tyson
Chandler said nothing will keep him out of the Mavericks’ season opener
Wednesday night against Charlotte.
Chandler suffered a gash near his right thumb last Wednesday
that required two stitches. They are not the kind of stitches that dissolve.
“I’m going to have to have them taken out,’’
he said. “I wish they were the kind that dissolve. But maybe they wanted
me to have a little extra pain.’’
Chandler said he gave the hand and thumb a good workout the
last two days and sees no reason why he can’t tolerate the pain and play
in the opener.
“Where it’s at, it’s not bad,’’
he said of the cut. “I can still control the ball. I can deal with the
pain. I’m still able to block shots and finish with it. We ran a couple
lob plays for me today. Initially when you get out there, you’re a little
skeptical about catching the ball. But after you get over that, you’re
fine.’’
