DALLAS _ Like many kids, Jason Kidd grew up watching the Harlem Globetrotters.
Kidd, the Dallas Mavericks' point guard, used to marvel at the way Curly Neal and his teammates dribbled the basketball. But it was one thing regarding the Globetrotters that really stood out with Kidd.
"Those guys are pretty impressive with what they could do with the ball,'' Kidd said. "And they had a heckuva record, too.
"I always thought I wanted to be like the Harlem Globetrotters and win, because of their record. But there are some talented guys that have been Harlem Globetrotters that did some special things, and I think what they do as ambassors of the game of basketball around the world, I think is great.''
In preparations for tonight's home game against Atlanta, the Mavs had to do their shoot around on their practice court, because the Globetrotters will be playing at American Airlines Center this afternoon -- and also on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Mavs, they couldn't stick around and watch the Globetrotters perform.
"I love the Globetrotters,'' Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said. "But we're busy with other things right now.''
By the way, Texas Legends coach Nancy Lieberman used to play for the Washington Generals. That's the team that travels the world and plays the Globetrotters.
