Saturday night in Washington was a reminder the Roddy
Beaubois still is an unproven NBA commodity prone to inconsistency.
Not that the Mavericks didn’t expect nights like the
one he had against the Wizards. He played 13 minutes and shot just 1-of-7 from
the field. Quite honestly, it was hard to remember the one he made. Beaubois
looked lost much of the night.
Coach Rick Carlisle called it a down night for the
second-year guard who has played only four games after returning from foot
“We understood there were going to be some nights like
this,’’ Carlisle said. “This is just part of the cycle of him
coming back. Fortunately, he only played 13 minutes, so he’s fresh for
(Sunday’s game at Toronto). These are learning situations. We’ll
show him some individual film and he’ll make adjustments and do better.
But we need everybody and that’s evident.’’
Beaubois had been showing nice signs of growth in his first
three games back, but it was clear on Saturday that there will still be speed
bumps for him to navigate.
