True, the Mavericks’ center missed 68 games over two
seasons before this one, mostly with foot trouble.
But here’s the difference. Both of those injuries were
to his left foot.
He’s never had any trouble with the right foot, which
is the one he injured Tuesday night in Philadelphia. There should be no reason
to believe that the injury is going to trigger another problem somewhere else
in the foot.
And if you’re looking for more reasons not to be too panicky
about this, consider that Chandler had been piling up some heavier minutes
during the last month. He’d played 30 or more minutes in 10 of the last 18
games before the injury. Before that, he’d played 30 or more only 14
times in the first 41 games.
His minutes were creeping up and a couple games of rest on
the other parts of his body might not be a bad thing, presuming Brendan Haywood
can take advantage of this opportunity and fill the void during Chandler’s
absence.
