DALLAS _ Rick Carlisle kept tap-dancing over the question as he tried to explain – without going into detail – his unfortunate sideline incident Friday night with backup guard Jason Terry.
During a timeout at the 9:54 of the second quarter in the game against the Los Angeles Clippers, Carlisle and Terry were locked into a heated exchange of words. The Mavs were trailing, 39-25 at the time after a turnover by Terry led to a layup by Eric Gordon.
One thing led to another and Terry had to be restrained by teammates and assistant coaches, all while fans and media watched the ugly event unfold.
When it was all said and done, the Mavs snapped a four-game losing streak with a 107-96 triumph, and Terry never played any more, finishing with no points in eight minutes. Carlisle said that was officially the “night off’’ that he was going to give Terry later on this season.
But Carlisle didn’t shed any light on what led to the dust-up with Terry.
“It’s an internal matter,’’ Carlisle said. “But I made the decision at the time of the incident that that was going to be it (for Terry for the night).’’
Asked is he and Terry have talked and resolved their differences, Carlisle said: “It’s an internal matter. If we haven’t, we will. And if we had, we did. And I think that’s fair.’’
