Magic Johnson remains one of the best at analyzing
situations on a basketball court. He never lost that point-guard mentality.
And he’s absolutely certain that Dirk Nowitzki will
not let his injured middle finger on his left hand bother him in Game 2
tonight.
“He’ll be fine,’’ Johnson said. “When
you play, you don’t think about it. You just go out and play. Once the
national anthem is done and the ball goes up, trust me, he won’t be
thinking about that splint.’’
Johnson, by the way, couldn’t be more impressed with
the way Nowitzki has played during the Mavericks’ playoff run that
included a four-game sweep of the Lakers.
“When you get on a roll in the playoffs and you get to
playing on top of your game in the playoffs, it makes it hard for a team to
beat you,’’ Johnson said. “And Dirk has been on such an
amazing run. Man. It’s been unbelievable watching him perform at the
highest level with the pressure on. And he’s come through time and time
again. It’s been amazing.’’
