The Miami Heat inbounded the ball to Dwyane Wade, who finally proved to be mortal, which had been in dispute. Wade muffed the pass and had to save the ball from going backcourt, and he managed to get the ball to Mike Miller.
But Mike Miller's desperation 3-pointer from the right sideline hit nothing but air and then the court, for an 86-83 Dallas Mavericks victory and a 2-2 series tie in the NBA Finals.
"Every time he tried to speak he was coughing," Tyson Chandler said of Dirk Nowitzki this morning during shootaround. The supporting cast new it had to step up, Chandler said, as doctors were hoping to get the Big German well.
Both teams were out of timeouts before the final deciding sequence in regulation.
On the Mavs' previous possession,Jason Terry took the critical inbounds pass and got fouled in the Mavericks backcourt with 6.7 seconds to play. He calmly hit both free throws to put the Dallas Mavericks' lead back to three, 86-83.
Peja Stojackovic had entered the game for the first time before the inbounds.
Nowitzki finished with 21 points, 10 in the fourth quarter. Chandler had 13 points and 16 rebounds, and Terry 17 points.
