OKLAHOMA CITY _ It took three games, but the Dallas Mavericks finally got something significant from their centers.
During Thursday's nail-biting 104-102 loss to Oklahoma City, Mavs centers Brendan Haywood, ian Mahinmi and Sean Williams combined for 19 points, nine rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. The trio converted 8-of-13 shots and collected five dunks, including a tremendous one through traffic by Williams.
Maybe now folks will stop talking about the loss of Tyson Chandler to free agency.
OK< that probably won't happen. But at least the three-headed team of Haywood, Mahinmi and Williams p'roved to be productive in what was the Mavs' best game of the season. Haywood, for one, had eight points, five boards and three dunks.
"He set good screens and put himself in a position to be a recepient of the ball and make plays,'' coach Rick Carlisle said. "Hey look, I liked our center position tonight.
"I liked a lot of what we were doing. But we have some other guys who are struggling and they’ve got to pick it up.’’
