DALLAS _ As expected, center Sean Williams signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks today. Ther second season of the contract is only partially guaranteed.
The addition of Williams is imperative, because the Mavs need interior help after losing Tyson Chandler to the New York Knicks via free agency. Born in Arlington and a graduate of Mansfield High School, Williams, averaged 14.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.9 blocks for the D-League’s Texas Legends last year.
Well known for his uncanny ability to block shots and rebound, the 6-10, 235-pound Williams was the 17th overall pick of the 2007 NBA Draft by the New Jersey Nets.
Williams will compete with Brendan Haywood and Ian Mahinmi for playing time as the Mavs attempt to shore up their interior defense heading into Sunday’s regular season opener against Miami.
Mavs fans can get a sneak peak at Williams when he plays for the Legends in a game tonight in Frisco against the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
