OKLAHOMA CITY _ Tracy McGrady isn’t on Mark Cuban’s payroll. But the Atlanta Hawk forward sure is stirring up some noise that, if it comes to fruition, could land the Dallas Mavericks multiple NBA championships.
During an interview with Yahoo! Sports, McGrady indicated that Orlando center Dwight Howard and New Jersey point guard Deron Williams will probably end up in Dallas to join Dirk Nowitzki and form arguably the most powerful Big 3 in the NBA.
“D-Will is from Dallas,’’ McGrady said. “You’ve got Dirk Nowitzki there. They’re going to have (salary cap space) there.
“That looks sweet. Dirk, D-Will, and then you get Dwight Howard. That’s it right there.’’
Cuban has been clearing up cap space to prepare for the free agency class of 2012. And he has his eye on Howard and Williams.
“Dwight’s going to find a sweeter spot for him next year with him being a free agent, with D-Will being a free agent,’’ said McGrady, who is a cousin of Mavs guard Vince Carter. “And Dallas already having an established star there. . .Yup, Dallas.
“If it's just Dwight and D-Will, he's better off just staying in Orlando. You want to go to a team that's championship caliber, and just him and D-Will won't get it done. There's got to be other pieces around to make it look sweet.’’
