DALLAS _ The battle for the 15th and final Dallas Mavericks roster spot will take place tonight at 7 in Frisco.
That’s when Mavs free agent guards Jerome Randle and Drew Neitzel suit up and play for the Texas Legends of the D-League when the Legends face the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
Randle and Neitzel have waged a tough fight for the Mavs’ 15th roster spot, and have made it difficult for management to make a decision. Thus, the Mavs wanted to see the duo again against live competition before they made their final decision on who will receive that coveted 15th roster spot.
“The two young guards have shown well the last couple of games, and they’ve been really good in practice,’’ coach Rick Carlisle said. “I’m happy for the way that they’ve played.
“They’re very aggressive. They’re obviously fighting for their lives here, but they’re getting better and that’s encouraging.’’
In Tuesday’s game at Oklahoma City, Randle scored a game-high 17 points and was 7-of-11 from the field and 2-of-2 from three-point range in just 18 minutes. Neitzel, meanwhile, tallied seven points and was 3-of-6 from the floor and 1-of-2 from beyond the three-point arc.
In the preseason opener last Sunday, Randle scored five points on 1-of-4 shooting in 17 minutes, and Neitzel was scoreless and missed his only shot attempt in four minutes of action.
The Mavs have 14 players with guaranteed contracts after today's signing of center Sean Williams.

They should sign Randle. He looked like JJ Barea out there in the last game against OKC.
