MINNEAPOLIS -- Lamar Odom paid Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love a whole lot of respect.
After Love scored 25 points and grabbed 17 rebounds Sunday to lead the T-Wolves to a 99-82 triumph over the Dallas Mavericks, Odom compared Love to one of the former Detroit Pistons Bad Boys.
“He’s almost like a new version of (Bill) Laimbeer to me,’’ Odom, the Mavs’ forward, said. “Almost Laimbeer-like. But a little bit more athletic.’’
Love showed off that athleticism when he converted a gorgeous step-back three-point field goal during a key moment of the fourth quarter. That three-pointer followed another three-pointer by Love on the T-Wolves’ previous trip up the court and soared Minnesota ahead 90-82 with 4:07 left.
“That three-ball was deadly,’’ said forward Dirk Nowitzki. “You’ve got to give him credit.
“He made some big shots when they needed them.’’
Love was 9-of-16 from the field for Minnesota, including 5-of-6 from beyond the three-point arc. He also had seven offensive rebounds -- or one more than the entire Mavericks’ team.
