AUBURN HILLS, Mich. _ It didn't take Yi Jianlian long to impress the Dallas Mavericks.
Following two highly successful games while playing for the D-League's Texas Legends, Yi was called up today to join the Mavericks. The 7-foot center/forward will join the Mavs in Detroit and likely will be activated in time for Tuesday's game against the Pistons.
After signing a one-year contract with the Mavs last Friday, Yi tallied 17 points and collected 11 rebounds in a D-League game against Austin. And in a game Sunday against Maine, Yi poured in 29 points and grabbed 13 boards.
Yi was overcoming a minor knee injury he suffered while playing in his home country of China. But now the Mavs believe the sixth pick of the 2007 NBA Draft is ready to be a major contributor to their program.
