DALLAS _ The Dallas Mavericks opened their most difficult period of the season Tuesday by losing at home to the New Jersey Nets, 93-92.
Jason Kidd missed a chance to win it for the Mavs when his desperation three-pointer misfired at the buzzer.
This was the first of nine games the Mavs will play over the next 12 days. And now they have dropped three of their past four games.
Brook Lopez led the Nets with 38 points -- one shy of his career high. The Colony native, Deron Williams, finished with 12 points and 12 assist for the Nets.
Dirk Nowitzki paced the Mavs with 24 points and 10 rebounds, and Brendan Haywood had a season-high 18 points and 10 boards.
The Mavs missed their first 13 shots of the fourth quarter, and that wound up being their undoing. Dallas shot 36 percent form the field for the game.
