The Boston Celtics are nearing the completion of a deal with Dallas Mavericks free agent guard Jason Terry, a source said.
The Celts plan to offer Terry their mid-level exception, which starts at $5 million in the first year. Boston is expected to offer Terry a three-year deal for $15 million.
However, the Jet will not be off the Mavs' runway that easy, since he has already given Mavs management assurance that he will give them an opportunity to match any offer he receives.
Terry, who turns 35 on Sept. 15, has spent the last eight seasons with the Mavs after spending his first five seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. Last year Terry averaged 15.1 points and shot 43 percent from the field for the Mavs.
