DALLAS -- Just because they've picked up three potential starters this summer in point guard Darren Collison, center Chris Kaman and shooting guard O. J. Mayo -- while also adding guard Dahntay Jones and power forward Elton Brand -- that doesn't mean the Dallas Mavericks are through shopping for quality talent.
The Mavs still have a pair of their own free agents they have to address in point guard Delonte West and forward Brian Cardinal. If they so desire, the Mavs can use the $2.5 million "room exception'' to sign West.
Asked about the Mavs' interest in West and Cardinal, general manager Donnie Nelson said: "We’re continuing to be engaged and we just have to see how things pan out.''
When Mayo signs his two-year contract Wednesday or Thursday, the Mavs will have 14 players under contract, counting rookies Jared Cunningham, Jae Crowder and Bernard James. And in this era of the NBA's new collective bargaining agreement, the Mavs know there are many more bargains available.
"We’re always looking,'' Nelson said. "It’s one of those situations where free agents have to be looking out for their best interest, and it’s our job to look out for the Mavericks’ best interest.
"We’re looking at trying to get the best possible talent that we can.''

West would make too many guards on this team and it's time to let Cardinal go (too old. Can they move either Jones and or Roddy B?
