DALLAS -- According to ESPN, Jim O’Brien has been hired to be the top assistant to Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle.
O’Brien replaces Terry Stotts, who recently left Dallas to become the head coach of the
Portland Trail Blazers.
The 60-year old O'Brien posted a 303-327 record as the head coach of the Boston Celtics (2000-'04), Philadelphia 76ers (2004-'05) and Indiana Pacers (2007-'11). O'Brien's best season was the 2001-'02 campaign when he led the Celtics to a 49-33 record and a berth in the Eastern Conference Finals.
