DALLAS – Before he left Barcelona, Spain, Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle gave high praise to the FC Barcelona Regal squad that defeated his unit, 99-85, Tuesday night.
“First of all, FC Barcelona is a great basketball team, extremely well coached,’’ Carlisle said. “They played a great game.
“I just really admire the way they move the ball, the way they pass, cut, screen, make plays -- just tremendous. Really, they had the advantage pretty much the whole game.’’
FC Barcelona Regal led the Mavs, 74-56, after the third quarter. The Mavs cut the deficit to six midway through the fourth period before the home team ran off and hid again.
“We were playing from behind most of it with a couple of exceptions in the first half,’’ Carlisle said. “You've got to give them tons of credit.
“Their coach is a great coach, and we obviously have a lot of work to do.’’
The Mavs are 1-1 going into Monday's 7:30 p.m. preseason game against the Houston Rockets at American Airlines Center.
