DALLAS -– Throughout his NBA career, Chris Kaman has been known to tell a joke or two.
So when he returned from Germany last week, the Dallas Mavericks centers went on and on about how he was trying to find his long lost parents while he was in Europe.
“I’m from Germany,’’ joked Kaman, who was born in Grand Rapids, Mich. “I found out my mom and dad lied to me and I was adopted from Germany when I was little.
“I tried to find my real parents when I was there just now in Berlin, without any luck, unfortunately. I’m going to go back this summer and try again. No, seriously.’’
Seriously, Kaman found out later in life that his great grandparents are from Germany. That piece of information enabled him to apply for and receive dual citizenship -– American and German.
It also was the impetus Kaman used to play on the German national basketball team. In addition, he represented Germany in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and Dirk Nowitzki was one of his teammates.
