When they battle FC Barcelon Regal at 2 p.m. CDT Tuesday in Barcelona, Spain, the Dallas Mavericks will face two players who briefly used to be part of their organization.
Originally drafted 58th overall by the Mavs in the 2000 NBA Draft, FC Barcelona Regal forward Pete Mickeal never got a chance to play for the Mavs. That’s because his draft rights were immediately traded to the New York Knicks.
By the way, Mickeal attended the same Rock Island High School in Rock Island, Ill., as former Mavs coach Don Nelson.
Also, the Mavs acquired Regal center Nathan Jawai from the Toronto Raptors in a four-team deal on July 9, 2009. But Jawai never played for the Mavs, who traded him to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 20, 2009 for a second-round pick.
